International Marionette Biennial (date to be announced)
Every two years, in May, the historic centre of Evora – declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO – is invaded by marionettes from several different countries.
The International Marionette Biennial is considered one of the most important European festivals of its type. It has been held since 1987, and features participants from all over the world.
It is organised by CENDREY (Centro Dramático de Evora), the company which rescued the tradition of Santo Aleixo puppets, the Alentejo’s traditional marionettes, whose origin dates from the 18th century and which represent an expression of popular culture.

Evora International Short Film Festival (November)
FIKE 2007 is an independent film festival organised by University of Evora Film Society and SOIR Joaquim Antonio de Aguiar, two non-profit cultural associations that promote cinema as an art form and as a unique form of cultural expression. The event, which will be held between the 16th and 24th of November, promotes social and cultural improvement and the economical development of the town and region through culture.
