SHOPPING: The Algarve is known for its cork products, made from the cork oak that is heavily harvested in Portugal. Other regional crafts include locally made leather goods, pottery, jewellery and painted tiles or “azulejos”. You can visit Quinta Shopping Mall, located at the entrance to Quinta do Lago, to shop for the latest fashions in clothing and home interiors. You can also enjoy a meal at one of its restaurants.You can also visit the Algarve Shopping Centre, watch a movie or go bowling there, dine out or shop in High Street brand name stores.
If you prefer to shop in independent retailers, you can visit Casa Algarve, in Lago, who specialise in “azulejos” and unique pottery designs, or Oxala, outside the village of Estombar, which imports African and Asian furniture, jewellery, carpets, rugs and other crafts. Shops are normally open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. From January to November shops close at 1 p.m. on Saturdays. In December they are open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. There are also many shopping malls with shops open from 10 a.m. to midnight. |
